Reciprocating Steam Engine Training (ES) – VIC, TAS, SA, WA

Steam Training and our affiliated RTO GoTrain Industry Pty Ltd (RTO20812) offer the following unit of training: UEPOPL003 – Operate a Reciprocating Steam Engine

Based upon your experience, this is generally a 1 day training course (theory and practical) that is designed to give a trainee operator, who has experience in the operation of a steam engine at a plant, a more in depth grounding that will prepare them for the questions asked by the national ES High Risk Work assessment instrument. Participants should have a good understanding and working knowledge of the environment in which they work.

The session covers:

  • Relevant legislation
  • OHS and PPE requirements
  • Steam Engine Principles and Construction
  • Engine Fittings and Mountings
  • Engine Operations – prep, start, monitor, shut down
  • Emergency situations
  • Engine maintenance
  • Lubrication
  • Fault finding scenarios
  • Records

Upon completion of the training an assessment for a HRW ES licence may be conducted.

Separate fee applies.

A Statement of Attainment will be issued once you satisfactorily pass the HRW licence assessment.

Experience prior to assessment

Prior to assessment each student should be able to demonstrate a history of practical experience in the operation of the high risk work equipment.

We prefer this includes a completed log book. Whilst a logbook is not a mandatory requirement for HRW assessments, it is a useful tool to track your practical skills, and to prove competency and confidence in your skills to your assessor.
